Breeders’ Cup Juvenile

The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile is the championship dirt race for two year old colts and geldings. In 2026, the Breeders’ Cup World Championships return to Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky, on October 30 and 31.

2026 race facts

The official 2026 Breeders’ Cup race schedule lists the FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at 1 1/16 miles on dirt, or 1700 metres. The purse is $2 million and the maximum field is 14 starters.

Pre Entry for the World Championships closes at noon Eastern on October 19. The race is one of the central events on the Friday program devoted to two year olds.

Why the Juvenile matters

The Juvenile brings together leading young dirt horses at the end of their first racing season. It often provides an important early benchmark for the following year’s three year old division, while remaining a championship objective in its own right.

The route to Keeneland includes major graded races across the United States. The Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs on September 12 is part of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Dozen program for the Juvenile division. The Champagne at Belmont on October 3 is an official Breeders’ Cup Challenge race.

Key 2026 season checkpoints

The Del Mar Futurity on September 6, the Iroquois on September 12, and the Champagne on October 3 form important checkpoints for leading North American juveniles. The Keeneland fall meet then provides another major test as championship weekend approaches.

These races help clarify which horses are progressing toward the distance and class demands of the Juvenile. OTB Bet will update this hub as verified contenders, qualifying results and championship fields become available.
