How horses reach the Classic
The Classic field develops throughout the season through major Grade 1 races, Breeders’ Cup qualifying events and championship form. Some races provide direct qualification opportunities, while others serve as important form references as connections decide whether to target the Classic.
OTB Bet tracks those developments through permanent race guides, including the Jockey Club Gold Cup, Whitney Stakes, Pacific Classic and Haskell Stakes.
Key 2026 deadlines
Breeders’ Cup online pre entry opens October 1. The official pre entry deadline is October 19 at noon Eastern. The race order and post times are scheduled to be announced October 21, with the championships taking place October 30 and 31.
Those dates matter because the Classic picture can remain fluid well into October. OTB Bet will update this page as official entries, race order and confirmed participants become available.
