Thoroughbred horses leaving the starting gate on the Keeneland turf course

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf

The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf is a Grade 1 championship for two year old colts and geldings on grass. In 2026, the Breeders’ Cup World Championships return to Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky, on October 30 and 31.

2026 race facts

The official 2026 Breeders’ Cup race schedule lists the Brown Advisory Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at one mile on turf, or 1600 metres. The purse is $1 million and the maximum field is 14 starters.

Pre Entry for the World Championships closes at noon Eastern on October 19. Final entries close on October 26.

Why the Juvenile Turf matters

The race is one of the season’s major international tests for young turf horses. Its qualifying series reaches across Europe and North America, giving emerging juveniles several routes to Keeneland before the championship fields are finalized.

The timing is especially relevant in September. The Summer Stakes at Woodbine on September 12 is an official Breeders’ Cup Challenge race for the Juvenile Turf. The National Stakes at the Curragh follows on September 13.

Key 2026 qualifying races

The official Challenge Series includes the Acomb Stakes at York, Summer Stakes at Woodbine, National Stakes at the Curragh, Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont and Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland as qualifying races for the Juvenile Turf division.

That structure makes the September and early October races important checkpoints. A strong performance can move a developing two year old from a promising local runner into the championship conversation within a few weeks.
