Woodbine Entertainment and 1/ST Racing have renewed a qualifying pathway that will send the winner of the 2026 Dance Smartly Stakes directly into the invitation process for the 2027 Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
The $200,000 Dance Smartly Stakes is scheduled for October 3 at Woodbine. Under the renewed agreement, its winner will receive an automatic invitation to the Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Gulfstream Park in Florida.
A proven Woodbine connection
The partnership is entering another season after producing a clear route from Canada to Pegasus World Cup Day. Breath Away won the 2025 Dance Smartly and earned an automatic invitation to the 2026 Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
That connection gives the Dance Smartly added importance beyond its own graded stakes status. It also strengthens Woodbine’s position as a launching point for horses targeting major international turf races later in the season and into the following winter.
Why the announcement matters now
The timing is useful for owners and trainers planning fall campaigns. Woodbine’s October 3 program also includes the Canadian International, giving the track another major day with international relevance only weeks after Turf Champions Day.
The Pegasus invitation provides a defined next step for the Dance Smartly winner. Instead of ending a campaign with a stand alone fall target, connections can leave Woodbine with a confirmed route toward Gulfstream Park.
For racing fans, the agreement creates a simple storyline to follow. The winner on October 3 becomes a horse to track through the winter as the Pegasus field begins to take shape.
Pegasus context
The Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf is one of the featured grass races on Pegasus World Cup Day. The 2026 edition was a Grade 2 race over 1 1/16 miles with a $500,000 purse. Destino d’Oro won that edition for trainer Brad Cox and jockey Junior Alvarado.
OTB Bet has added a dedicated Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf guide to track the race, its qualifying routes and future confirmed field information. The broader Pegasus World Cup hub covers the main Gulfstream Park event and the wider meeting.
What comes next
The next key checkpoint is the Dance Smartly Stakes itself on October 3. Final entries and race conditions should be treated as official only when Woodbine publishes them. OTB Bet will update coverage when those details are confirmed and will avoid projecting a Pegasus field before invitations and participation plans are verified.
