  • Baeza and Further Ado Set to Join Spendthrift Stallion Roster in 2027

Baeza and Further Ado Set to Join Spendthrift Stallion Roster in 2027

Spendthrift Farm will add Grade 1 winners Baeza and Further Ado to its stallion roster for the 2027 breeding season after both horses complete their racing careers.

The announcement adds an important breeding development to a major racing weekend. Further Ado is scheduled to contest the Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing on September 19, while Baeza comes off a third place finish in the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park.

Baeza brings proven Grade 1 form

Baeza has built a résumé around repeated appearances at the highest level. The son of McKinzie placed in both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes at three before winning the Pennsylvania Derby. He returned at four and continued to compete in Grade 1 company.

His pedigree also gives Spendthrift a notable commercial prospect. Baeza is out of Puca, the dam of Kentucky Derby winner Mage and Belmont Stakes and Haskell Stakes winner Dornoch.

Further Ado remains active before stud duty

Further Ado, a son of Gun Runner, established himself as a leading two turn runner with a 20 length maiden victory at Keeneland, followed by success in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes. He later won the Blue Grass Stakes by 11 lengths and added the Matt Winn Stakes.

The timing of the announcement does not end his racing campaign. Spendthrift said both horses will join the 2027 roster after their racing careers conclude. Further Ado remains entered in Saturday’s Pennsylvania Derby at Parx.

That distinction matters for racing fans following the current three year old division. OTB Bet’s Pennsylvania Derby preview covers Further Ado’s immediate assignment, while the Jockey Club Gold Cup recap includes Baeza’s latest Grade 1 appearance.

    What comes next

Stud fees and final racing schedules can develop separately from the initial roster announcement. For now, the confirmed news is that Spendthrift plans to stand both Grade 1 winners in 2027 once their racing careers are complete.

  • American Man Leads Harrods Creek Stakes Field at Churchill Downs

American Man Leads Harrods Creek Stakes Field at Churchill Downs

American Man will try to earn his first stakes victory when he faces five rivals in the $300,000 Harrods Creek Stakes at Churchill Downs on Saturday, September 19.

The seven furlong dirt race is one of three stakes on the Downs After Dark program. Churchill Downs lists the Harrods Creek as Race 6, with an estimated post time of 8:30 p.m. Eastern.

American Man brings graded stakes form

American Man enters from a campaign that has already placed him against graded company. The Dallas Stewart trainee finished second in the Maxfield Stakes at Churchill Downs, then was fourth in the Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga. He returns to seven furlongs on Saturday with Cristian Torres aboard from post 2.

His Churchill experience is another useful part of the profile. American Man won an allowance over six furlongs at the track in May before stepping into stakes competition.

    Six horse Harrods Creek field

Gilded Bandit drew the rail for trainer Bill Mott and jockey Luan Machado. American Man starts from post 2, followed by Stop the Car for Brendan Walsh and Brian Hernandez Jr.

Tagermeen, trained by Steve Asmussen, drew post 4 after a recent allowance victory at Saratoga. Creole Chrome starts from post 5 for Joe Sharp, while Doublecents completes the field from post 6.

Stop the Car brings stakes experience after finishing third in the Ellis Park Derby. That form, combined with American Man’s graded stakes efforts and Tagermeen’s recent win, gives the race several plausible paths despite the compact field.

A strong Saturday program at Churchill Downs

The Harrods Creek sits alongside the Grade 3 Dogwood Stakes and the Seneca Overnight Stakes on Saturday’s card. The Dogwood features Grade 1 winner Explora in another seven furlong test for three year old fillies.

Saturday is also a major racing day beyond Louisville. Parx Racing hosts the Pennsylvania Derby, the Cotillion Stakes and the Gallant Bob Stakes.

The Harrods Creek field is scheduled to include Gilded Bandit, American Man, Stop the Car, Tagermeen, Creole Chrome and Doublecents. Bettors should confirm scratches and track conditions before post time.

  • Birdman Wins Underwood Stakes at Caulfield

Birdman Wins Underwood Stakes at Caulfield

Birdman added another major prize to his 2026 campaign on September 19, winning the Group 1 Underwood Stakes at Caulfield for trainer Chris Waller.

The 1800 metre weight for age feature was one of the headline races on a major Caulfield program. Birdman entered the race second up after finishing sixth in the Memsie Stakes, a return that gave him a foundation for the longer distance. The move to 1800 metres was significant because he had already shown strong form over middle distances during the year.

    Birdman adds another Group 1

The Underwood success gives Birdman another elite level victory after his Doomben Cup win earlier in 2026. That Brisbane result was also a milestone for Waller, who reached 200 Group 1 wins when Birdman defeated Pride Of Jenni.

Birdman had already shown an affinity for Caulfield before Saturday. He won the Peter Young Stakes over the same 1800 metre distance in March and entered the Underwood with a profile that suggested the step up from the Memsie Stakes would suit him.

    Spring implications

The Underwood Stakes is an important form reference for the major Melbourne spring races. Its position on the calendar gives established weight for age horses a chance to build toward longer assignments, including the Cox Plate and the Caulfield Cup program.

Birdman now has a significant spring result on his record and his performance strengthens the case that he belongs among the leading middle distance horses in Australia this season. Future plans will depend on his recovery and the decisions of his connections, so OTB Bet will wait for a confirmed target before treating any particular race as his next start.

  • Reagan’s Flame Wins Presque Isle Downs Masters

Reagan’s Flame Wins Presque Isle Downs Masters

Reagan’s Flame continued her outstanding synthetic season Friday night, winning the Grade 2 Presque Isle Downs Masters at Presque Isle Downs on September 18.

The five year old mare, trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. and ridden by Edgard Zayas, defeated Paris Carver in the $300,000 feature. Les Reys finished third and Sea Runner was fourth. Paradise City was scratched, leaving eight starters.

Reagan’s Flame confirms her Tapeta strength

The result extended a productive 2026 campaign built around synthetic racing. Reagan’s Flame entered the Masters after victories in the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes and Grade 3 Seaway Stakes at Woodbine. Her success at Presque Isle added a Grade 2 victory to that record and confirmed that her form has transferred across different Tapeta tracks.

She started as the favorite after bettors backed the same surface profile that made her the central horse in OTB Bet’s Presque Isle Downs Masters preview.

    Paris Carver outruns her price

Paris Carver produced the strongest challenge and finished second for trainer Jorge Delgado and jockey Paco Lopez. Les Reys, trained by Miguel Clement and ridden by Axel Concepcion, completed the first three.

The Masters was contested at six and one half furlongs on the Presque Isle synthetic surface. Reagan’s Flame earned $189,000 from the $300,000 purse.

    Championship season comes into focus

The Masters has an established connection with the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. Past Masters winners Groupie Doll and Informed Decision also won the Breeders’ Cup event during their careers.

Reagan’s Flame’s victory therefore adds another meaningful late season result as the female sprint division moves toward the Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland. Any future target will depend on her connections, and OTB Bet will update the picture when plans are confirmed.

The result also closed the first half of a major Pennsylvania racing weekend. Parx Racing takes center stage Saturday with the Pennsylvania Derby, Cotillion Stakes and Gallant Bob Stakes.

  • Forever Young Wins Jockey Club Gold Cup at Reopened Belmont Park

Forever Young Wins Jockey Club Gold Cup at Reopened Belmont Park

Forever Young made Belmont Park’s return to racing his own on September 18, winning the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup in his first start since March and strengthening his position among the leading contenders for the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

The Japanese champion defeated Stars and Stripes by 3 1/4 lengths, with Baeza third and Phileas Fogg fourth. He completed 1 1/4 miles on a fast dirt track in 2:01.23 under Ryusei Sakai for trainer Yoshito Yahagi.

Forever Young takes control on the far turn

Phileas Fogg supplied the early pace while Forever Young settled within striking distance. Sakai asked the favorite to advance on the second turn, and Forever Young moved past the leader before opening a clear advantage into the stretch.

Stars and Stripes rallied for second, while Baeza finished third after another slow beginning. The race was reduced to four starters after Render Judgment joined the previously announced withdrawals of Banishing and Chunk of Gold.

Forever Young was returning from nearly six months away from competition. His previous start came in the Dubai World Cup on March 28, when he finished second to Magnitude.

Breeders’ Cup Classic defense comes next

The victory adds another major international Grade 1 to a campaign that already includes the Saudi Cup. Forever Young is the defending Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and is expected to return to Keeneland for the $7 million Classic on October 31.

The Jockey Club Gold Cup is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series and awards an automatic berth to the Classic. Forever Young had already secured qualification through his Saudi Cup victory, but the Belmont performance provided an important test over the same 1 1/4 mile distance he will face at Keeneland.

The result also keeps alive the possibility of a championship meeting with Sovereignty. The reigning Horse of the Year missed the Jockey Club Gold Cup because of a foot abscess but returned to light training this week.

A historic winner on Belmont’s reopening day

Forever Young’s victory came on the first day of live racing at the rebuilt Belmont Park following a multiyear reconstruction. The Jockey Club Gold Cup served as the centerpiece of the reopening program and the first Grade 1 race at the new facility.

  • Antiquarian Sold to Stand at Arrow Stud in Japan

Antiquarian Sold to Stand at Arrow Stud in Japan

Grade 1 winner Antiquarian has been sold to JS Company and Directors and will begin his stallion career at Arrow Stud in Japan, adding another accomplished American runner to the Japanese breeding industry.

The move was announced on September 18. Antiquarian retired from racing in August after a minor suspensory injury was discovered beneath his left ankle while he was preparing for a defense of the Jockey Club Gold Cup.

A Grade 1 winner moves to Japan

Antiquarian won five of 14 starts and earned $1,320,350 during three seasons of racing for Centennial Farms and trainer Todd Pletcher. His biggest victory came in the 2025 Jockey Club Gold Cup. He also won the Peter Pan Stakes in 2024 and the Westchester Stakes in 2026.

His final season included a third place finish in the Whitney Stakes, one of the leading summer races for older dirt horses in the United States.

    A familiar American bloodline

Antiquarian is a son of Preservationist and the Istan mare Lifetime Memory. Centennial Farms also campaigned Preservationist, giving Antiquarian an important connection to one of the stable’s previous Grade 1 winners.

Arrow Stud has experience standing horses familiar to North American racing followers. Its roster has included California Chrome, Shanghai Bobby and Firenze Fire.

    Why the move matters

Japan continues to attract accomplished international bloodstock, and Antiquarian brings proven Grade 1 dirt form along with a pedigree that gives breeders another American option. His arrival also closes the racing chapter of a horse who competed successfully from age three through age five.

For OTB Bet readers following the older dirt division, his departure changes the landscape around races such as the Whitney Stakes and the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

  • Ka Ying Rising Completes Final Sha Tin Gallop Before Everest Trip

Ka Ying Rising Completes Final Sha Tin Gallop Before Everest Trip

Ka Ying Rising completed his final serious work in Hong Kong on Friday, September 18, clearing another important step toward his defense of The Everest at Randwick on October 17.

The champion sprinter worked 1200 metres on the Sha Tin turf before dawn in 1 minute 21.07 seconds, finishing his final 400 metres in 22.6 seconds. Trainer David Hayes reported that Ka Ying Rising recovered well from the exercise and is ready for the trip to Australia.

    Australia trip comes next

Ka Ying Rising is scheduled to leave Hong Kong for Sydney on Sunday, September 20. His preparation is expected to include two weeks in quarantine at Canterbury Racecourse before a Randwick trial on October 6.

The six year old enters the trip after extending his winning streak to 21 races in the HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup at Sha Tin on September 6. He won by seven and three quarter lengths and set another Sha Tin 1200 metre course record of 1 minute 6.11 seconds.

    Everest defense takes shape

Ka Ying Rising won The Everest in 2025 and is set to return in the Hong Kong Jockey Club slot. His latest work keeps one of the biggest international stories of the Australian spring on schedule as the October 17 race approaches.

  • Underwood Stakes Preview Brings Nine Horse Group 1 Field to Caulfield

Underwood Stakes Preview Brings Nine Horse Group 1 Field to Caulfield

The Melbourne spring moves into another important Group 1 checkpoint on Saturday, September 19, when nine runners are scheduled to contest the $1 million Underwood Stakes at Caulfield.

The 1800 metre weight for age race brings together established Group 1 performers and horses trying to strengthen their claims for the major races still to come. Melbourne Racing Club confirms that the Underwood is one of two $1 million Group 1 races on the Caulfield program.

    The field

Lindermann has barrier one with Blake Shinn, while Buckaroo starts from barrier eight for Mark Zahra. Attrition has barrier seven with Jamie Mott, and Pinstriped has barrier two with Lachlan Neindorf.

Cosmic Crusader is drawn in barrier three with William Pike. Birdman has barrier four for Ben Melham, Middle Earth has barrier five for Ethan Brown, Kingswood has barrier nine for John Allen, and Aeliana has barrier six with Damian Lane.

    Aeliana adds major race quality

Aeliana gives the field an important point of interest as the only mare in the published lineup. Her presence also gives trainer Chris Waller a deep hand alongside Lindermann, Buckaroo and Birdman.

The field is compact, but it contains several different form profiles. That should make position and race shape especially important over 1800 metres, where runners need enough tactical speed to secure a useful place before producing a sustained finish.

    Why this race matters

The Underwood sits naturally between early spring mile racing and the longer championship contests that follow. A strong performance can change how a horse is assessed for the Cox Plate, while horses with greater stamina can continue toward the Caulfield Cup and other major spring targets.

OTB Bet now has a permanent Underwood Stakes guide for race history, conditions and future updates. Readers can also follow the broader Australian season through the Melbourne Cup guide and Major Races center.

    Race day note

The published field is subject to race day scratchings. OTB Bet will use confirmed official results before publishing any recap or updating the permanent guide with the winner.

  • Reagan’s Flame Heads Presque Isle Downs Masters Field

Reagan’s Flame Heads Presque Isle Downs Masters Field

Presque Isle Downs stages its biggest racing program of the season Friday, September 18, with the Grade 2 Presque Isle Downs Masters leading a five stakes card in Erie, Pennsylvania.

The $300,000 Masters brings together nine fillies and mares at six and one half furlongs on Tapeta. Reagan’s Flame arrives as the horse to beat after establishing herself as a leading synthetic sprint mare this season. She has won three of four starts on Tapeta in 2026, including the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes and Grade 3 Seaway Stakes at Woodbine.

Reagan’s Flame brings proven Tapeta form

Reagan’s Flame enters for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. after winning the Seaway at Woodbine on August 22. Edgard Zayas, who rode her in that victory, has the return assignment. Her recent record matters because Presque Isle Downs conducts its racing on Tapeta, making surface experience an important part of evaluating the Masters field.

Joseph also sends Paradise City, who comes into the race after competing in the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga. Paradise City has not raced on Tapeta, but her presence gives the stable a second route into a competitive field.

Other entrants add proven synthetic and stakes form. Sea Runner comes off a victory over the Presque Isle surface, while Les Reys enters with experience against graded competition. The variety of profiles makes the Masters more than a one horse test despite Reagan’s Flame carrying the strongest recent Tapeta credentials.

Five stakes races shape the Friday card

The Masters is the centerpiece of a broader stakes program. Presque Isle Downs lists five stakes races for Friday, including the $150,000 Presque Isle Mile, the $100,000 Presque Isle Debutante, the $100,000 Fitz Dixon Jr. Memorial Juvenile Stakes and the $75,000 Power by Far Stakes.

The track lists a 5 p.m. Eastern first post for the special Friday program. The Masters is scheduled as the ninth race, with America’s Best Racing listing an expected post time of 8:36 p.m. Eastern.

The Presque Isle Mile gives older runners another meaningful synthetic target on the card, while the juvenile stakes provide an early look at developing horses late in the season. Together, the races make Friday one of the most concentrated synthetic racing programs on the United States calendar.

    Why the Masters matters

The Presque Isle Downs Masters has developed a notable connection to championship sprint racing. The inaugural winner, Miss Macy Sue, later finished third in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. Groupie Doll won the Masters in both 2012 and 2013 before also winning the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint in those seasons.

That history gives the race significance beyond its purse. A strong performance Friday can help clarify the late season picture for female sprinters as attention moves toward the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Keeneland.

The Masters also adds another important event to a major Pennsylvania racing weekend. One day later, Parx Racing hosts the Pennsylvania Derby and Cotillion Stakes. OTB Bet also has dedicated previews for the Pennsylvania Derby field, the Cotillion field and the Gallant Bob Stakes.

  • Arkansas Derby Winner Sandman Set for Stud Career in New York

Arkansas Derby Winner Sandman Set for Stud Career in New York

Arkansas Derby winner Sandman is set to begin the next phase of his career in New York. Rockridge Stud near Hudson will add the son of Tapit to its stallion roster for the 2027 breeding season, according to a September 17 report from BloodHorse.

The move gives New York breeders access to a Grade 1 winner with one of the most established dirt pedigrees in American racing. Sandman is by Tapit out of Distorted Music, a daughter of Distorted Humor.

Sandman brings Grade 1 credentials to Rockridge

Sandman earned his signature victory in the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park. He also finished third in the Preakness Stakes, giving him a classic placing to accompany his Grade 1 record.

Those performances made him one of the recognizable members of his three year old crop and give his move to stud broader relevance than a routine stallion announcement. Readers can revisit the race that produced his biggest victory in OTB Bet’s Arkansas Derby guide.

A new chapter in New York

Rockridge Stud operates near Hudson, New York, and already stands a roster that includes horses such as War of Will, Mind Control and Americanrevolution. Adding Sandman brings another accomplished dirt runner to the farm as it prepares for the 2027 breeding season.

BloodHorse reported that Sandman will stand at Rockridge in 2027. His stud fee and additional breeding details can be followed through the farm as the new season approaches.

    Why the move matters

Retirement announcements for major race winners help shape the next generation of the Thoroughbred industry. Sandman’s Arkansas Derby victory links his future breeding career directly to one of the important spring races on the road to the Kentucky Derby, while his Preakness placing adds classic form to his profile.

OTB Bet will continue tracking major stallion moves and the racing careers that feed into them as the 2026 season progresses.
