Stradale Heads 12 Horse Gallant Bob Stakes Field at Parx

The Gallant Bob Stakes adds a deep sprint to Pennsylvania Derby Day at Parx Racing on September 19. Twelve three year olds are entered for the Grade 2 race at six furlongs, with Stradale listed as the 4 to 1 morning line favorite.

Stradale starts from post 8 for trainer Steven Asmussen with Jose Ortiz aboard. Captivator is listed at 9 to 2 from post 10, while Langvad is 5 to 1 from post 5. Bravaro, Dr. Kapur, Ryan’s Run and Amberjack each add further depth to a field that should put an emphasis on early position and clean trips.

    A rematch adds another layer

Bravaro, Langvad and Ryan’s Run meet again after filling the first three positions in the Robert Hilton Memorial at Charles Town. Bravaro won that race, while Langvad finished second and Ryan’s Run was third. My Boy Star also enters the Gallant Bob after previously defeating Langvad in sprint company.

Saffie Joseph Jr. has a major presence with Ramajay, Bravaro, Langvad and Dr. Kapur. Local interest comes from Mailata, trained by Robert Reid Jr., who arrives after winning the PTHA President’s Sprint at Parx.

    Where the Gallant Bob fits

The $400,000 Gallant Bob is one of the leading sprint tests for three year olds on the fall calendar. It shares the September 19 program with the Pennsylvania Derby and Cotillion Stakes, giving Parx three major graded races across different divisions.

Always a Runner Leads Nine Horse Cotillion Stakes Field at Parx

Kentucky Oaks winner Always a Runner returns to the Grade 1 stage on September 19 when she leads a field of nine three year old fillies in the $1 million Cotillion Stakes at Parx Racing.

The Cotillion is contested at one and one sixteenth miles on dirt and shares the spotlight with the Pennsylvania Derby on one of the most important cards of the Parx season.

Always a Runner returns after two Grade 1 seconds

Always a Runner won the Gazelle Stakes and then captured the Kentucky Oaks in the spring. She has since finished second to Counting Stars in both the Acorn Stakes and Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga.

Trainer Chad Brown elected to bypass the Alabama Stakes and target the Cotillion. Always a Runner drew post 4 with Jose Ortiz named to ride and was installed as the morning line favorite.

Measure and My Miss Mo bring strong recent form

Measure arrives after consecutive Grade 1 placings at Saratoga, including a runner up finish in the Alabama Stakes. My Miss Mo enters on a two race winning streak after taking the Black Eyed Susan Stakes and Monmouth Oaks.

Zany adds another accomplished contender after finishing second in the Ashland Stakes earlier this season. Iron Orchard is already a Grade 1 winner, while Tap to Open enters after winning the Cathryn Sophia Stakes at Parx.

  • Explora Leads Six Horse Dogwood Stakes Field at Churchill Downs

Explora Leads Six Horse Dogwood Stakes Field at Churchill Downs

Grade 1 winner Explora will return to Churchill Downs on September 19 as the headline runner in a six horse field for the $300,000 Dogwood Stakes.

The Grade 3 contest is scheduled for seven furlongs and will be Race 8 on Churchill Downs’ Saturday evening program. First post for the card is 6 p.m. Eastern, with the Dogwood scheduled for 9:39 p.m. Eastern.

Explora returns after Test Stakes victory

Explora enters for trainer Bob Baffert after a five length victory in the Grade 1 Test Stakes at Saratoga. Her 2026 campaign has also included victories in the Santa Ynez, Honeybee and Leslie’s Lady before her Test success.

She also has important Churchill Downs experience. Explora finished fourth in the Kentucky Oaks earlier this season before returning to shorter distances. Juan Hernandez has the mount from post 1.

    Dogwood Stakes field

The official field, in post position order, is Explora, My Steel Magnolia, Where Luck Lives, Conceit, Movie Night and A Fine Chardonnay.

A Fine Chardonnay brings Grade 2 winning form, while Conceit enters after winning the Audubon Oaks. Their presence gives Explora accomplished opposition in a compact field.

    A strong Saturday night program

The Dogwood is one of three stakes on the September 19 program. The $300,000 Harrods Creek brings together three year old males, while the $200,000 Seneca Overnight Stakes is another opportunity for three year old fillies.

The timing also makes the Dogwood useful form for the final portion of the season. Explora has already demonstrated top level ability at seven furlongs, while several rivals have an opportunity to strengthen their profiles against a Grade 1 winner.

OTB Bet will follow the official result and update its coverage when the race is complete.

Pennsylvania Derby Preview Brings 11 Horse Field to Parx

The Pennsylvania Derby is set for September 19 at Parx Racing with 11 three year olds entered for the $1 million Grade 1 race. The field brings together proven graded stakes performers, improving runners and local horses with experience over the Parx surface.

Parx confirms the Pennsylvania Derby will be contested at one and one eighth miles and will headline a major card that also includes the $1 million Cotillion Stakes and the $400,000 Gallant Bob Stakes.

Further Ado returns to Grade 1 company

Further Ado enters as one of the most accomplished horses in the field. The Brad Cox trainee won the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland earlier this season and also captured the Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill Downs. His most recent start produced a fifth place finish in the Haskell Stakes.

Flavien Prat is scheduled to ride Further Ado from post 7. The colt will try to rebound against a field that offers several different pace and running style profiles.

Iron Honor and The Puma bring major race experience

Iron Honor drew post 2 for trainer Chad Brown. He finished second in the Preakness Stakes and later ran third in the Haskell Stakes. Jose Ortiz is scheduled to ride.

The Puma starts from post 6 for trainer Gustavo Delgado. Earlier this year he won the Tampa Bay Derby and finished second in the Florida Derby. He later competed in both the Haskell Stakes and Travers Stakes.

    Local form adds another dimension

Micanopy enters after winning the Smarty Jones Stakes at Parx on August 18. That local victory gives him proven form over the track. Ponder and Dream, who finished second in the Smarty Jones, also returns and is expected to be part of the early pace.

Zihnal arrives after winning the West Virginia Derby, while Our Moneyman enters after finishing second to Travers Stakes winner Leading Change in the Indiana Derby. Talk to Me Jimmy, Igniter, Freedom’s Echo and Sassmaster complete the field.

  • Floral Park Preview Brings Deep Turf Sprint Field to Belmont Park

Floral Park Preview Brings Deep Turf Sprint Field to Belmont Park

Belmont Park moves into its first full weekend after reopening with a competitive turf sprint on Saturday, September 19. The $175,000 Floral Park brings together 12 fillies and mares over six furlongs on the Widener turf course.

The race is scheduled as Race 9 on a 10 race card, with first post at 12:05 p.m. Eastern. It also becomes the first turf stakes at the rebuilt Belmont Park, giving the race added significance beyond a strong field.

Highway Harmony returns to six furlongs

Highway Harmony arrives after an excellent summer. She won the John Hettinger at Aqueduct on June 28 by two and one half lengths and completed six furlongs in 1:06.44, a track record. She then finished second to Shoot It True at Saratoga over five and one half furlongs.

Trainer Amelia Green now stretches Highway Harmony back to six furlongs. Edgard Zayas retains the mount from post 11. Her 98 Beyer Speed Figure in the John Hettinger is the best figure in this field according to NYRA.

    Tabiti returns for Brad Cox

Juddmonte homebred Tabiti returns from an 11 month layoff for Brad Cox. The Kingman filly has already shown high level sprint ability in Britain, including a Group 3 victory at Salisbury and a dead heat Group 3 success at Goodwood.

Tabiti drew post 9 with Samuel Marin. Her return to sprinting adds an international element to a field that already has several proven American turf sprinters.

    Capturing continues to improve

Capturing enters for Todd Pletcher after winning a Saratoga optional claimer by a nose on July 10. That performance produced a career best 87 Beyer Speed Figure. Her recent form suggests that shorter turf races have become her strongest assignment.

Other notable runners include graded winners Movin’ On Up and Love Cervere, along with Delightful Flame, Leslie’s Humor, Sweet Brown Sugar, Obstreperous, Lovely Emma, Flamingo Way and Quiet Confidence.

    Why the Floral Park matters

The Floral Park provides an early look at how the Widener turf course plays during the new Belmont era. It also gives established turf sprinters and improving runners a useful late season test before autumn stakes programs develop further.

  • Forever Young Heads Five Horse Jockey Club Gold Cup Field at Belmont Park

Forever Young Heads Five Horse Jockey Club Gold Cup Field at Belmont Park

Result update: Forever Young won the Jockey Club Gold Cup on September 18 by 3 1/4 lengths over Stars and Stripes. Read the complete Jockey Club Gold Cup recap.

The 2026 Jockey Club Gold Cup was reduced to five intended runners after Banishing and Chunk of Gold were withdrawn on September 15. Reigning Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Forever Young led Baeza, Stars and Stripes, Phileas Fogg and Render Judgment into the Grade 1 race on Friday, September 18.

Forever Young also completed his final major preparation at Belmont Park on September 15, working five eighths alone over the main track in 1:02.17. On September 17, he returned to the Belmont main track for a gallop in his final preparation before Friday’s race. Trainer Yoshito Yahagi said the horse had handled his travel and preparation well ahead of the Grade 1 assignment. The $1 million race will be the centerpiece of the first live racing program at the rebuilt Belmont Park.

The Jockey Club Gold Cup is contested over 1 1/4 miles on dirt for horses three years old and older. The winner receives an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland.

    Forever Young draws post 7

Forever Young remains in post 7 with Ryusei Sakai. The Japanese champion arrived in New York earlier in September and has trained over the new Belmont Park surfaces in preparation for his first start since finishing second in the Dubai World Cup.

His presence gives Belmont’s reopening immediate championship importance. The Jockey Club Gold Cup matches the Breeders’ Cup Classic distance and serves as his final planned race before the championship at Keeneland.

The field is reduced to five

The remaining runners are Baeza from post 1, Stars and Stripes from post 2, Phileas Fogg from post 4, Render Judgment from post 6 and Forever Young from post 7.

Banishing will bypass Belmont with his connections considering the Lukas Classic or Ack Ack at Churchill Downs on September 26. Chunk of Gold will also skip the Jockey Club Gold Cup and is expected to target the Lukas Classic.

Phileas Fogg brings proven form at the distance after a 10 length Suburban victory at Saratoga. Baeza enters after competing in several of the strongest dirt races of the season, while Stars and Stripes arrives from a Birdstone victory. Render Judgment adds another runner with previous Kentucky Derby trail experience.

    Sovereignty returns to the track

Reigning Horse of the Year Sovereignty was not entered because of a foot abscess, but his recovery took an important step this week. Trainer Bill Mott said on September 17 that Sovereignty had returned to the track at Saratoga for jogging after roughly 12 days away from training.

Mott indicated that Sovereignty could begin galloping soon if his progress continues. The goal remains a possible return in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland, which would add another major contender to a division that also includes Forever Young. His absence from Belmont, followed by the withdrawals of Banishing and Chunk of Gold, has changed the shape of Friday’s race and strengthened Forever Young’s position as the central attraction.

A major race on a historic reopening day

The Jockey Club Gold Cup will serve as the centerpiece of Belmont Park’s return to live racing after a multiyear reconstruction project. NYRA lists post time for the race at 4:14 p.m. Eastern, with national coverage scheduled on FOX.

For permanent race history, conditions and updates, visit the Jockey Club Gold Cup guide. For the venue itself, see the Belmont Park guide. For the championship picture beyond Belmont, see the Breeders’ Cup Classic guide.

  • Woodbine Sunday Stakes Preview: Victorian Queen, Bull Page and Belfountain Take Center Stage

Woodbine Sunday Stakes Preview: Victorian Queen, Bull Page and Belfountain Take Center Stage

Woodbine follows its major Saturday program with another stakes focused card on Sunday, September 13. The Victorian Queen Stakes and Bull Page Stakes give Ontario sired juveniles an early stakes test, while the Belfountain Stakes offers older Ontario bred fillies and mares a nine furlong turf opportunity.

Victorian Queen brings two year old fillies together

The Victorian Queen is a six and one half furlong main track race for Ontario sired two year old fillies. Woodbine identified stablemates Stunningly Perfect and Awesome Grace among the key runners for trainer Steven Chircop. Stunningly Perfect enters after a maiden victory in which she pulled clear decisively, giving Sunday a useful measure of whether that form can translate into stakes company.

The race is especially relevant for local juvenile development because it gives Ontario sired fillies a stakes target before the autumn schedule becomes more demanding.

Bull Page gives Longshot Leo another stakes test

The Bull Page is the companion race for Ontario sired two year old colts and geldings over the same six and one half furlong distance. Woodbine reports that Longshot Leo faces five rivals. That compact field gives the race tactical interest and another chance to identify a juvenile who can progress into later local stakes.

Belfountain adds an older turf test

The $150,000 Belfountain Stakes is scheduled for one and one eighth miles on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course for Ontario bred fillies and mares aged four and older. Woodbine lists nine runners, including Elysian Field, War Painter, Fortyfiveseventy and Nantuckets Day.

Nantuckets Day arrives after a July allowance victory and makes her stakes debut for trainer Patrick Dixon. The mare is stepping into a deeper field, but her recent form gives the race a useful local storyline beyond the juvenile stakes earlier on the card.

Where Sunday fits in Woodbine season

The Sunday program comes one day after Woodbine Mile day and keeps the track’s autumn stakes schedule moving toward the Canadian International on October 3. OTB Bet is also tracking the wider Woodbine championship picture through the Woodbine Mile hub and continuing coverage of major turf races.

Fields and race conditions can change before post time. OTB Bet will use confirmed results for any follow up recap.

  • Irish Champion Stakes Preview: Constitution River and Item Lead Final Field of 8

Irish Champion Stakes Preview: Constitution River and Item Lead Final Field of 8

The 2026 Irish Champion Stakes has a final field of eight for September 12 at Leopardstown, setting up one of the strongest international turf races of the weekend.

The €1.25 million Group 1 is run over 1 mile and 2 furlongs. Constitution River, Item and Almaqam bring the highest profile recent form, while A Boy Named Susie, Wimbledon Hawkeye, Hawk Mountain, Hotazhell and Lambourn complete the field.

Constitution River returns for another major test

Constitution River represents Aidan O’Brien with Ryan Moore aboard. The three year old has already shown elite form at this distance range and now returns to Ireland for another top level assignment.

His draw in stall three places him close to several of the other major contenders, making the early tactical shape an important part of the race.

    Item arrives with major momentum

Item gives Andrew Balding a serious international chance and will be ridden by Colin Keane. He comes into Leopardstown as one of the most accomplished runners in the field and is drawn in stall four.

Almaqam, trained by Ed Walker, adds another proven Group 1 presence. Kieran Shoemark takes the ride from stall eight.

    Depth throughout the field

A Boy Named Susie has already competed against Constitution River this season and returns with Oisin Murphy aboard. Wimbledon Hawkeye, Hotazhell and Hawk Mountain all add further Group race form, while Lambourn gives Aidan O’Brien another runner in the contest.

The final eight are Almaqam, Hotazhell, Lambourn, Wimbledon Hawkeye, A Boy Named Susie, Constitution River, Hawk Mountain and Item.

A key international race before autumn championships

The Irish Champion Stakes remains an important bridge between the European summer season and the major autumn championships. Performances at Leopardstown can influence plans for races such as the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and the Breeders’ Cup.

For more context, visit the OTB Bet Irish Champion Stakes guide, the Irish Champions Festival 2026 guide and the Breeders’ Cup 2026 guide.

  • St Leger Preview: Christmas Day and Enceladus Head Final Field of 11

St Leger Preview: Christmas Day and Enceladus Head Final Field of 11

The 2026 St Leger reaches its decisive stage at Doncaster on September 12 with 11 runners confirmed for the final British Classic of the season.

Christmas Day and Enceladus bring the strongest profiles into the £700,000 Group 1, while Pierre Bonnard gives the race another proven three year old with top level form. The St Leger is run over 1 mile, 6 furlongs and 115 yards, making stamina as important as tactical position.

Christmas Day returns to Classic company

Christmas Day remains one of the central names in the field after a season that has already established him among the leading colts of his generation. He represents Aidan O’Brien and will be ridden by Ronan Whelan.

The longer Doncaster test asks a different question than the middle distance races that shaped much of his campaign. His ability to settle and conserve energy will be central to his chance over the extended distance.

    Enceladus brings strong momentum

Joseph O’Brien sends Enceladus into the St Leger with Billy Loughnane booked to ride. Enceladus has progressed through the season and now steps into one of the deepest stamina tests available to a three year old on the European calendar.

Joseph O’Brien also runs Highwayman, giving the stable two opportunities in the Classic.

Pierre Bonnard adds another major threat

Pierre Bonnard is another leading contender for Aidan O’Brien. The final field also includes Action, Alderman, Galiyan, Golden Story, Hatteen, Rebel Rocker and Amelia Earhart.

Amelia Earhart is the only filly in the field and carries 9 stone, while the colts carry 9 stone 3 pounds.

Why the 2026 St Leger matters

This edition carries added significance because Doncaster is celebrating 250 years since the first running of the St Leger. The race remains the oldest of the five British Classics and one of the major late season tests for three year olds.

For broader context, visit the OTB Bet St Leger Stakes guide and the St Leger Festival 2026 guide.

  • Woodbine Juvenile Grade 1 Preview: Induction, Embouteillage and Runaway Bride Step Up

Woodbine Juvenile Grade 1 Preview: Induction, Embouteillage and Runaway Bride Step Up

Woodbine’s Turf Champions Day on September 12 includes two Grade 1 races for 2 year olds that can shape the Breeders’ Cup picture before the autumn championship meeting at Keeneland.

The Summer Stakes and Natalma Stakes are both one mile turf races worth $500,000. Each winner receives an automatic Breeders’ Cup berth, with the Summer linked to the Juvenile Turf and the Natalma linked to the Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Induction takes the next step in the Summer Stakes

Induction enters the Summer Stakes after winning his debut at Colonial Downs on August 9. The Pin Oak Stud homebred won that race by two lengths for trainer Graham Motion and now makes his stakes debut from post 12 with Junior Alvarado named to ride.

The official field has 12 runners. International interest comes from Big Money Man for Christopher Head, Sword Salute for Charlie Johnston and Al Hudaiba for Charlie Appleby. Mark Casse has multiple runners in the field, while Oscar represents Miguel Clement and Quipster represents Kevin Attard.

The jump from a maiden victory to Grade 1 company is significant. Induction showed enough professionalism in his first start to earn this opportunity, but Saturday provides a much deeper test over a full mile.

Embouteillage and Runaway Bride headline the Natalma story

The Natalma has 11 confirmed starters. Embouteillage and Runaway Bride both arrive after winning their first career starts at Saratoga.

Embouteillage, trained by Graham Motion, won a turf sprint on August 5 and now stretches out to one mile from post 7 with John Velazquez. Runaway Bride won her debut on July 24 for Whitworth Beckman and starts from post 8 with Edgard Zayas.

The field also includes four runners trained by Mark Casse, Mo Cookie for Mike De Paulo, De la Renta and Cattrall for Kevin Attard, and Lamirada for Josie Carroll.

Why these races matter beyond Saturday

Both races offer more than Grade 1 status. The winners secure places in Breeders’ Cup races at Keeneland on October 30, giving Saturday’s card direct championship implications for the juvenile turf divisions.

They also complete the four race Grade 1 core of Turf Champions Day alongside the Woodbine Mile and the E.P. Taylor Stakes.

OTB Bet has separate previews for the Woodbine Mile and E.P. Taylor Stakes. For broader championship context, visit the Breeders’ Cup guide and Major Races.
